Becoming a donar is probably the only way you could get inside her.

Belgium the law concerning organ donation is very confusing. Everyone thinks he or she is automatically considered as a donor, but in fact you have to register to be a donor. Reborn to be alive is campaigning to make everyone aware of the fact he or she has to sign up. Also with the male target audience. That's why we placed the following ad in P-magazine, Belgium's leading male magazine.
reborntobealive.be Advertising Agency: Duval Guillaume, Brussels
Executive Creative Director: Katrien Bottez, Peter Ampe
Creative Director: Katrien Bottez, Peter Ampe
Art Director: Katrien Bottez
Copywriter: Peter Ampe
via ad of da month

Source: www.holgerappel.com

Not content with Android, the Google Mobile team has pulled another trick out of their sleeve: Gmail for mobile 2.0. Really, this is Gmail for mobile 2.0.6, but why quibble with details.

BlackBerry users got the bulk of the updates last month, with the Google Mobile App for BlackBerry, but now Gmail 2.0 has been pushed out to all J2ME phones.

Here are the highlights:

Offline support: This is big. You can read recent e-mail and compose messages, even if you don't have a signal. Messages you compose offline will be put in the outbox and sent as soon as you have a signal.

Multiple account support: The BlackBerry has had this feature since last month, and it is easily one of my favorite features. If you have multiple Gmail or Google Apps accounts (I have a Gmail account I rarely use for personal correspndance and three or four different Google Apps accounts), you know that having to log-in to a different account to access your mail is a huge, huge pain. You can set-up multple accounts and switch between them at ease.

Mobile drafts: You can compose multiple mobile drafts and then choose what you want to edit or send later. BlackBerry users have also had access to this feature for several weeks.

Shortcuts: Phones with a QWERTY keyboard can now use shortcut keys like, "z" fo undo, "k" to go to a new conversation, and "j" to go to an older conversatio -- just like in the desktop browser version of Gmail.

If you use Gmail and you have a BlackBerry or J2ME mobile phone, you definitely want to download the latest version of Gmail for mobile. You can get it at http://m.google.com/mail.

[via Mashable]
Source: feeds.downloadsquad.com

There's been a buzz around Brightkite for iPhone for some time now, and it totally lives up to the hype.

The ability to message nearby users in an iChat-like interface is definitely a plus, and helps to make the service more social. "Place snapping" quickly attaches a name to your location, giving you a street or intersection that you can use with Brightkite's placemark feature. You can also turn on notifications, making sure you don't miss any messages or comments. Even better, all of this happens within a slick, intuitive user interface that takes no time at all to learn.
Source: feeds.downloadsquad.com

Remember back in August when Steve Jobs confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that a "kill switch" existed within the iPhone API, allowing Apple to remotely disable malicious third-party applications distributed through the App Store? A big brouhaha ensued with lots of hand-wringing about how a closed marketplace wasn't acting like purely free market (shocker). Nevermind that the "kill switch" hasn't actually been used to remove apps from user phones and is actually just a security precaution to protect users against programs that might do actual harm to software devices (or I guess, potentially, mine data), its mere existence was decried and lambasted -- you know, until we all got bored and moved onto the next App Store scandal.

Well, Google has revealed that a similar switch exists within the Android API for Android Marketplace. According to Computerworld, the Android Marketplace Terms of Agreement state, "Google may discover a product that violates the developer distribution agreement ... in such an instance, Google retains the right to remotely remove those applications from your device at its sole discretion."

Thus far, the cries of outrage seem to be fairly muted. Computerworld and Engadget argue that this is because Google is being straight-forward and open about this provision from the get-go -- whereas an iPhone developer discovered the initial iPhone hook, and it was confirmed by Steve Jobs a few days later. I'm sure that is part of it, but I think the users are also more willing to accept this provision because the outrage over iPhone's similar provision passed as merely a blip on the radar.

Additionally, Google has announced that in the event a pay-application is remotely removed from handsets, Google will do everythign they can to recover the money paid to the developer and refund that money back to consumers. Computerworld also notes that the Android Marketplace will have a 24-hour refund policy for paid applications, if users are dissatisfied with the purchase. Initially, all Android Marketplace apps will be free, because Goole hasn't implemented the mechanisms necessary for developers to charge for software. A 24-hour return policy addresses one of the core complaints about the App Store: the inability to try apps before buying. That's a positive move for consumers.

I'm of the opinion that a "kill switch" for Google, Apple or any other official handset marketplace that allows apps to be downloaded directly to the device is a prudent and necessary provision. It will not be in Google's best interest, just as it is not in Apple's, to remove applications for any reason other than security. Although Apple has removed a number of applications from the App Store, the company has not deactivated any of those programs on user handsets. If you bought NetShare before it was permanently pulled from the store, you can still use the program, even if it does violate your carrier agreement. Likewise, Tris, the free Tetris-clone that was pulled because of intellectual property violations, still works for any user that downloaded the program before its removal.

Think about it this way: If Google did not have a mechanism in place to remove an application that could potentially erase, ruin or muck up data on your phone -- or even worse, an app that stole personal information stored on the phone -- imagine the true user outrage, not to mention the very real financial liability.

The first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1 will be released on October 22, 2008. Download Squad will be getting our grubby paws on a phone as soon as our T-Mo store gets them in stock, and we'll be posting about the best software, development tips and tricks and other Googlelicious information.

[via Engadget]

Source: feeds.downloadsquad.com

Gmail has been supporting IMAP for almost exactly a year now, and they're celebrating by fixing the only thing I don't like about it! One of the latest brilliant ideas to come out of Google Labs is an advanced IMAP controls option that lets you mark messages for deletion without actually deleting them, and send your deleted messages to the trash instead of archiving them, Most importantly, you can hide individual Gmail mailboxes from your IMAP mail client. That sounds like a picky thing, and not really a big deal, but it's actually huge for me.

You may have noticed that Gmail has a mailbox called All Mail, that does exactly what it says -- it keeps copies of all your mail. This is fine if you're using webmail; you don't have to look at it, but it's there when you need it. If you're using an IMAP client, though, those extra copies of every last message in your account get synced to your computer all the time. Why bother downloading an email message twice, especially if you've got an overflowing inbox?

The thing is, now you don't have to. Turn on the advanced settings by going to "settings" and then "Labs" in Gmail. Once you enable the option, go back to settings and go to labels. All it takes is one checkbox, and All Mail will leave your email client alone. Brilliant. Of course, there might be a good reason for wanting to sync All Mail ... I just haven't found it yet. So thanks, Google, for fixing one of my pet peeves!
Source: feeds.downloadsquad.com

So you've decided to install Ubuntu on your computer, but you're not ready to give up Windows altogether. No problem. During the install process, just take care not to overwrite Windows and you can have a dual boot setup in under an hour. But what's this? The GRUB bootloader adds 10 seconds to your startup time if you don't hit the key to skip the countdown. And it automatically assumes Ubuntu should be your default operating system.

It's relatively simple to tweak your GRUB menu by editing the menu.lst file hanging out in the grub directory of your Ubuntu file system's boot folder. You can change the boot order of the operating systems. Or you can adjust the countdown clock. But if you make a mistake, you could also make it quite difficult to load either Ubuntu or Windows.

Startup Manager, or SUM provides an easier way to edit your GRUB menu. You can find SUM in the Synaptic package manager or by typing "sudo apt-get install startupmanager" into a terminal window. Or you can just click this link.

Once it's installed, you can access Startup Manager from the System -> Administration menu. The utility lets you change the default operating system, adjust the screen resolution of the GRUB menu, and even alter the background and text colors. You can adjust the countdown timer, set a password, or alter a number of other settings. And there's fairly little risk of messing up your boot menu beyond all repair.

[via Digg and Make Tech Easier]
Source: feeds.downloadsquad.com
